Laying your items out the night before your travel date, makes it easier to just fold and pack when needed. This avoids the need for ironing in many cases. Browse your items carefully, making sure not to pack items "restricted" by the airport. Many hotels provide overnight toiletries for guests unable to purchase imediately. Check your itinerary for the week. If you have no leisure time available because of meetings . Your favourite bathing suit will not be needed. Also by checking your scheule and finding out in advance what types of restaurants you will be dining, this will make your choice of clothing for trip much easier
Also when I got rid of that anxious feeling of possibly forgetting things and realizing really that I can buy always buy something I need, made me a lot less nervous when preparing for a trip. Also relying on hotel provided toiletries helps a lot.
As someone who travels 3 - 4 times a month on long distance trips I find that its good to have one partially pre-packed suitcase ready at home so that when i return from a trip, that as i unpack- i alredy shift those things i will need on the next trip into the already partially packed suitcase. It thus reduces the turn-around time/prep time for the subsequent trip.
For regular travellers, finding the quickest method to both pack and unpack for business travel is a key time saver. For personal travel, however, I still end up late the night before a big trip worrying about what to bring. We realized in pictures after returning from a personal trip that we end up wearing the same things most of the time - so now we bring fewer items and in some cases even items we are willing to throw out as we go along our trip to make room for new purchases...that has sav
Similar to hooses comment, I found that I wear mostly the same clothes. Even for longer trips, especially when I know I have access to laundry facilities, I fit everything to travel in my carry-on. This saves time at the airport and ease of mobility at my destination.
I like choth21's comment. I travel for business most of the time and feeling prepared is important. This was easier once I narrowed my necessities down to my: wallet, passport, phone, and laptop--in that order. These, and the clothes I board the plane wearing, are all I really need. Everthing else can be found or bought in a pinch.
Important to pack ONLY what you need. Pack things that match - two or three shirts that match your pants. You can always wash your shirts and wear pants more than once.

What helps me most is go from your toes to your head and be sure you have everything you need. Start with shoes, socks, etc....

Roll your socks and stuff them in your shoes to save space and maintain the shape of your shoes.
