Underground city in Beijing

If you are looking for somewhere out of the ordinary to visit in Beijing, try the Underground City. It is located near the southwest corner of Tiananmen Square just off Qianmen Dongdajie (which is a large road just north of the Underground City).

For a small fee you can be shown through this underground area by an English-speaking guide. This city was designed to house the occupants of Beijing during war and included a library, hospital and even a tunnel that used to lead all the way to the Great Wall of China.

It is a short tour so you can easily combine it with a visit to Tiananmen Square.
