I am a marketing manager whose territory covers the Southwest and I travel alot for events. For me what is most important at a hotel is the late night service. I get in usually after hours and to arrive at a hotel that has staff and people who actually will take care of you after a long day is what can either make or break my attitute towards the hotel even before I have the event.
