Being by the water San Diego has a wonderful night breeze that does require a jacket or sweater. The best clothing to bring during "summer" would be light fun clothing with a light sweater when it is closer to the "winter" months. But don't be fooled it does get cold in SD. During the "winter" or "rainy" season - December - February, it is cold during the day and the nights can get down right bitter.
