Don't forget to leave time to walk across the plaza to visit the Alamo when staying at the Hyatt Regency on the riverwalk. This is almost the holiest shrine of the State of Texas. Ever heard of the phrase "Remember the Alamo". Well if you take a few minutes to walk around and read the plaques on the surrounding grounds you'll understand why this phrase is so famous.
I agree. To me, the Alamo, the River Walk and the County Line Barbecue (the one you have to drive to that's at the edge of San Antonio) are my three favorite places in San Antonio. There isn't much else to see once you climb out of the River Walk, and even the River Walk is very different in December, much to my surprise.
The Alamo can be easiest found from the River Walk by going to the River Center Mall on the East end of the riverwalk, then exiting the north side of the mall. Even if you have a few minutes, the Alamo is worth the visit as there isn't a huge amount to see and there aren't lines/fees.
