San Diego - Rent a car

I made the mistake of not renting a car in San Diego and it cost me triple in taxi fares of what I would have paid to rent the car. Many interesting side trips are available to you if you rent a car, including Mission San Diego de Alcala where a volunteer archeological dig is on going. Soledad Mountain is part of the 59 Mile Drive to site see around San Diego and the view is astounding. You will also see multi-million dollar homes with views that take your breath away! You miss alot by only sticking to the tourist areas in San Diego, but it is spread out. Hotel Del Coronado - see it, but don't eat there! Just a sandwich and a drink at the beach bar will cost you $20 each. Eat at Mission Beach, lower prices, same view, lots of good resturants and great fish tacos!

Stayed at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla and it is well worth it to just rent a car. Two days into the trip my friend and I decided to get a car. There is so much in the surrounding area to see/do but it is just so sprawling. Many of the attractions you can spend an entire day such as Balboa Park. We got a Go San Diego card (one required per person) which provided discounts and other incentives to visit specifed restaurants/bars/museums etc... Had a great visit and would def. do again.

I agree that renting a car is the way to go, especially if you're staying at a Hyatt other than the Grand Manchester. There is lots to see and do in San Diego and cars are relatively cheap
